Domestic Applicants

Graduate student admission is based on previous academic records and hospitality related work experience.

  1. Online Graduate Admission Application
    When the online application has been submitted, please send confirmation number to the Graduate Program Coordinator, Halie Stout at hastout@uh.edu.
  2. $50.00 Application Fee (payable to the University of Houston)
    This fee will be collected when you submit your application online. This fee is non-refundable and cannot be waived. If you choose to push your application to a future semester, you will have 13 months until you will be required to submit a new application and a new application fee. (No Exceptions)
  3. Resume (must include mailing address and e-mail address)
    Greater than one year of hospitality related work experience is preferred for admission.
  4. Statement of Intent (approximately 250 words, double-spaced)|
    Concise description of why you wish to pursue your MS in Hospitality Management.
  5. Two Official College Transcripts (from all institutions attended)
    Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) - minimum of 3.0 on a 4.0 cumulative average scale. Domestic applicants that did not complete a degree in the United States (or other English speaking country) are required to provide proof of English proficiency with TOEFL or IELTS exam scores.
  6. Degree Certificate or Diploma (from all institutions attended; if degree is not shown on official transcript)
  7. Official GRE or GMAT Score (institution code for GRE is 6870 and GMAT is XT1-1C-69)
    GRE or GMAT official scores should be sent to University of Houston. The Hilton College of Graduate Program recommends that these exams(s) be successfully completed prior to submission of the graduate admission application. The admissions committee reviews all three areas on these exams- quantitative, verbal & analytical writing.
  8. Three Letters of Recommendation
    A mix of both employers and professors are preferred. Please see the recommendation form template on the Graduate Admissions page. All employers and professors completing this form MUST mail your letter of recommendation directly the Graduate Program Coordinator of the Hilton College.
  9. Interview
    Interviews are required for Graduate Program applicants who have seen selected to continue the application process. Interviews are conducted through an online system or in person. A visit to campus is NOT required. Not every applicant is invited for an interview. The interviews are by invitation only. The decision for admission is made based on evaluation of a complete file. The official decision will be sent to the applicant’s current listed e-mail & mailing addresses. No decision will be released by telephone. No exceptions.

    Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) - minimum of 3.0 on a 4.0 cumulative average scale International applicants for admission to the graduate program must possess a U.S. bachelor’s degree or the equivalent to a U.S. 4-year bachelor degree program. The university does not consider a 3-year Bachelor in Hotel Management (BHM) or diploma programs as the equivalent of a U.S. four-year bachelor’s degree. An additional one or two year postgraduate studies from accredited institutions may be considered for graduate admission with approval from the Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies. Applicants presenting a three-year diploma will, if offered admission, be considered as undergraduate students. Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science program, applicants would then be eligible for admission review for the graduate program.
  6. Degree Certificate or Diploma (from all institutions attended)
    This document is not needed if degree is shown on official transcript.
  7. Official GRE or GMAT Score (institution code for GRE is 6870 and GMAT is XT1-1C-69)
    GRE or GMAT official score to be sent to University of Houston.
  8. Official TOEFL or IELTS Score (English Language Proficiency Requirement)

TOEFL: Minimum Score-600 (paper-based test); 250 (computer-based test); or 100 (Internet-based test). Must be submitted to University of Houston by ETS and must reflect institution code 6870.

IELTS: Minimum Overall Band Score-7 (Academic).

The testing agency should mail the official results to University of Houston, Office of Admissions, Welcome Center, 4400 University Drive, Houston, TX 77204-2023, USA.

You are exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS (English Language requirement) if you earned a high school diploma, Associates of Arts, Associates of Science, Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited U.S. institution.

Level 6 English course from the Language and Culture Center does not waive TOEFL for graduate students. ITOEFL (Institutional TOEFL) is not valid for graduate students. Refer to US Admission Application Booklet for further information. Send a student copy of result for initial review.

  3. Two (2) Passport Sized Photos of Yourself (Affix name and date of birth on the back of the photos.)
  4. Copy of Passport
