The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences sets minimum program and admissions regulations that must be fulfilled by all graduate students. Individual departments may have additional special requirements. The college requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution for admission to the master’s programs; a master’s degree, or equivalent, or 30 to 36 semester hours of graduate work in the appropriate field from a recognized institution, for admission to the doctoral programs; Graduate Record Examination scores; and a 3.00 graduate point average in the last 60 hours of undergraduate or graduate course work. (Verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing GRE scores are examined separately and evaluated as one information source in the total application.) Some programs within the college have higher requirements. Please refer to the departmental sections of this catalog for additional information.

Continuation

Any student’s continuation in the graduate programs of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is at the discretion of the college, the major department, and the major advisor. A satisfactory rate of progress toward the degree is required throughout a student’s enrollment. A department may terminate enrollment at any time if the rate of progress is not satisfactory.

The college requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better, unless the department requires higher grades. In addition, the college requires adherence to the university’s low grade policy .
