Important Notes About the Required Hours:

Typically, 3 hours equals one course, but that may not be true for all courses. The student should always check and select the number of courses necessary to add up to the Required Hours for each category.

Selected Topics and Independent Study courses - those courses numbered xx94-xx98 - may not be used to meet any Core requirements.

Students should note that each course listed is linked to its full description elsewhere in this catalog. Also, students should check credit hours and prerequisites, and always work with an advisor to insure that they are selecting the right courses to meet their degree plan requirements.

Fall 2007 - Summer 2014 UH Core Information

Beginning Fall 2014, the core curriculum was redefined by the state of Texas.

Students enrolling at the University of Houston for the first time Fall 2014 and forward will follow the Core Curriculum requirements established at the beginning of the Fall 2014 term.

Any student who first enrolled in an institution of higher education prior to fall 2014 shall, after consultation with an academic advisor, have the choice to:

  • complete the core requirements  in effect in summer 2014; or
  • transition to the current core requirements , in which case, previously completed core curriculum courses shall be applied to the current core requirements under the same terms as those that apply to a student who transfers from one institution to another. The student shall then complete the remaining requirements under the current core curriculum .

Students with any questions about what the Core Curriculum requirements are for their specific degree plan, should contact an advisor.
