HRM Admission Requirements

Automatic Admissions Criteria

Freshmen applicants who graduate in the top 10% of their high school class will be automatically admitted to the University of Houston’s Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management. All applicants, regardless of class rank, must submit SAT I or ACT scores.

Regular Admission Criteria

Applicants will be admitted to the University of Houston’s Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management if they meet the following criteria:

  • Students who rank between 11 and 25 percent of their high school class, must have a minimum 1050 SAT I (critical reading and mathematics) or ACT of 21.
  • Students who rank between 26 and 50 percent of their high school class must have a minimum of 1100 SAT I (critical reading and mathematics) or ACT 24.
  • Students who rank in the bottom 50% of their high school class may have their application individually reviewed.

Applicants to the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management who have earned 15 or more semester credit hours at another university must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.85 or higher for automatic admission.

International students are required to submit scores from either the Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS). Students are required to score a minimum of 550 on the written examination, 213 on the computerized version, or 79-80 on the internet based version of the TOEFL in order to be considered for admission. The minimum IELTS score required is an overall score of a 6.5. The testing agency should mail the official results directly to the University of Houston. No electronic IELTS are accepted.

International Students must also meet the same requirements as entering freshmen or transfer students - whichever category they fall into. Please refer to the University of Houston International Undergraduate Admissions Booklet.

Change of Major

University of Houston students who have completed at least 15 hours of college level work must have a minimum of 2.85 cumulative grade point average in order to change their major to Hotel and Restaurant Management. Students must submit a General Petition Form to the Conrad N. Hilton College Office of Academic Services.
