August 2018

Dear Students:

It is with great pride that I welcome each of you - new and returning students - to the University of Houston. What an exciting time to be part of the Cougar family!

As we continue to build upon our elevation to Tier One status, we celebrate the many accomplishments of our diverse students and dedicated staff. Our commitment to impacting the nation with research is evident in the addition of the College of Medicine, and national research centers that will focus on innovations in energy, technology, and homeland security. UH continues to be recognized in the White House college affordability scorecard as being a university that is low in cost, low in borrowing and low on student debt.

Each year renovation and expansion projects change the culture of our campus and we seek opportunities to increase student engagement and community involvement. If you choose to live on campus, you will find that your living space is an extension of your learning space. Our residence halls are home to “resident faculty,” tutoring centers, and classrooms - we want to make sure you get the support you need, day or night. TDECU football stadium is home to the 2015 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Champions, and with the upcoming addition of The Fertitta Center, we look forward to a spectacular year with Cougar athletics.

Student success is my administration’s top priority, and we will do all we can to help you graduate in a timely manner, well prepared for any challenge the world presents to you. I encourage you to join any of more than 500 UH student organizations. Being active in an organization not only enriches your college experience but also improves your chances to graduate on time.

Always be confident that every service we provide, every building we construct, every professor we hire, and every scholarship we award, has one common purpose - to ensure your success.

Wear red with pride - especially on Fridays - fill the stands at every home game, study hard, and also have fun.

Go Coogs!
