Candidates must hold a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent from an accredited college or university. All undergraduate majors are acceptable, with courses that develop writing skills and analytical thinking recognized as good preparation for the study of law.
The UH Law Center requires applicants to enroll for the Law School Credential Assembly Service (CAS). The Office of Admissions can supply information or you can contact:

A complete package submitted to the UH Law Center must contain:
- Application form
- Non-refundable application fee of $70
- Personal statement (no longer than 3 pages, double-spaced);
- Resumé
- Immigration documents (if not a U.S. citizen)
No application will be reviewed without the CAS report, which includes a recent LSAT score, transcripts for all colleges and universities attended, and at least 2 letters of recommendation (but not more than 3).
University of Houston Undergraduate Students - Effective Fall 2021
Pursuant to ABA Standard 503 and Interpretation 503-3, the University of Houston Law Center may admit up to 10% of its J.D. class from undergraduate students matriculated at the University of Houston without an applicant LSAT score in the CAS report provided that (1) the student has scored at or above the 85th percentile on the ACT or SAT and (2) the student has achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or above through six semesters of academic work.
Application Process
The early decision deadline is November 15. Early decision is non-binding. The full-time program regular decision deadline is February 15. The part-time evening program regular decision deadline is May 15.
Because a rolling admission process is used, there is likely to be more availability earlier in the process. Decisions for full-time will be mailed by mid-May. Decisions for part-time will be mailed by mid-July.
It is university policy, consistent with State of Texas statutes, that no single criterion can be utilized as the sole determinant of admission status, nor can fixed weights be applied to any one criterion. Demonstrated academic ability achievements, honors, extracurricular activities, service to others, unique abilities, hardships overcome, advanced degrees, employment and leadership. The UH Law Center is also committed to diversity and the UH System Board of Regents recognizes and endorses the benefits of diversity in the university setting. The Admissions Committee will consider the following additional factors: cultural history, ethnic origin, and race. These and other elements may be addressed in a personal statement of up to three pages double-spaced.
Interviews are not granted, but an appointment may be scheduled to discuss the admissions process. Decisions are final. Applications will be reconsidered only under very compelling circumstances. Therefore, be sure to include all relevant information in your application materials.
