Parking and Transportation Services

112 Welcome Center Parking Garage
832-842-1097
uh.edu/parking
parking@uh.edu

Hours of Operation: 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. Monday-Friday

All vehicles parked on campus must display a valid UH parking permit issued by Parking & Transportation Services (PTS). This permit allows parking in designated areas as space allows; it does not guarantee a parking space in any particular lot.

Student Permits

Parking permit registration is available in my Parking Account Service through accessuh.uh.edu. Students may choose from garage, student or economy lot permits. During registration, a printable temporary permit is provided until the official permit is received by mail. Students should familiarize themselves with the parking regulations by visiting the parking website.

Citations/Appeals

Parking citations double after 21 days, so all students are encouraged to take care of any parking citations in a timely manner. Parking citations can be paid or appealed online before the 21-day deadline. After 21 days, students forfeit the right to appeal a violation. A complete listing of parking rules and regulations is available on the parking website. To pay or appeal a citation, simply go to accessuh.uh.edu and click the myParking Account icon.

Shuttle Services

The university offers a shuttle fleet that services the campus, the Energy Research Park and Metro’s Eastwood transit center. The shuttles are equipped with Cougar Trax to provide real-time arrival predictions. To see when the next bus will arrive at your stop visit www.uh.edu/cougartraxmobile or www.cougarline.ridesystems.net/. Students who park in outlying lots can enjoy an air-conditioned ride to the center of campus and back to their cars. The Cougar Line is free but individuals must swipe their Cougar Card to help PTS evaluate ridership and level of service.

Metro Services/Metro Q-Card

Students are encouraged to register for a Metro Q-card, as Metro offers several bus routes plus rail service to campus. The Q-card allows students to receive a 50% discount on their Metro fare. To register for a Q-card, simply log in to your myParking Account through accessuh.uh.edu and click “get permits” to begin your request. Registration is a simple process that takes only a matter of minutes. The Metro Q-card will be available for the pick-up at the Welcome Center Parking Desk in approximately 2 business days.

Students who do not purchase a permit may be eligible to enroll in COAST, Parking and Transportation’s commuter club. Participants receive a monthly METRO subsidy of $27.50 per month. For local bus riders, this covers 100% of your monthly transportation cost to and from campus. For more information, visit www.uh.edu/coast.

Parking and Transportation Services

Parking and Transportation Services is now partnering with Zipcar, a global car-sharing company, to provide UH faculty, staff and students the opportunity to reserve vehicles as necessary in exchange for “driving credits.” A great resource for the UH community, Zipcar vehicles are located at various buildings across the University to allow quick and easy access for everyone, regardless of where they are on campus. Undergraduate students attending the University of Houston who are enrolled in 6 or more credit hours (3 for summer session) and graduate students who are enrolled in 3 or more credit hours are eligible to enroll online (uh.myahpcare.com) for coverage in the UHS endorsed Student Health Insurance Plan within the posted open enrollment time period.

International students with “F” or “J” visa status are required to be covered under the UHS Student Health Insurance Plan or have equivalent health insurance coverage, regardless of the number of credit hours taken. At the time of registration, the student will automatically be enrolled in the mandatory UHS-endorsed Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) and will be charged for the coverage period on their student financial account.

Each international student with “F” or “J” visa status must ACTIVATE their enrollment or submit a WAIVER for each coverage period.

ACTIVATION: You will need to ACTIVATE your insurance enrollment for each coverage period you wish to be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan. It is recommended that you complete this ACTIVATION at least one week prior to the beginning of the new coverage period to ensure you have access to your insurance account. Go to uh.myahpcare.com to view more information or to complete the ACTIVATION.

WAIVER: You may request a waiver online at uh.myahpcare.com based on the university’s waiver criteria. The deadline to submit a waiver for each fall, spring and summer semester is the official reporting day (ORD) as posted on the academic calendar.
