The C. T. Bauer College of Business is a leading-edge business school that provides an innovative learning environment designed to prepare a new generation of leaders and entrepreneurs to transform lives, advance organizations, reinvent industries, and better societies. Named in 2000 to honor Houston business leader and philanthropist Charles T. (“Ted”) Bauer, Bauer College  has been in operation for more than 60 years at the University of Houston and provides quality business education for over 7,000 undergraduate business majors and minors. Located in the fourth largest city in the U.S., Bauer College offers a flexible learning environment with in-person and online instruction that is industry-focused, with unique internship and career opportunities.

Our academic programs are focused on preparing students to find their dream jobs upon graduation. Our undergraduate students are an important source of new talent for many Houston area companies and our graduate programs are a criticalpipeline for employee development and retention for many Houston-area firms.

Because of our high-quality education, business environment, and significant scholarship support, Bauer College attracts high caliber students, including National Merit Scholars who are also members of the University of Houston Honors College. The Bauer student population mirrors Houston’s diverse nature. The University of Houston attracts students from 125 different countries; over 290 of these international students are undergraduate business majors.

Accreditation

The Bauer College of Business is a fully accredited member of the AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, including accreditation of the accounting program. There are 926 business institutions in 62 countries and territories that have earned AACSB Accreditation. Similarly, 188 institutions hold an additional, specialized AACSB Accreditation for their accounting programs. AACSB accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education and has been earned by less than five percent of the world’s business schools.

Support Services and Supplementary Requirements

The Bauer College of Business provides services to help business students plan their education and career, and to finance the cost of their education through scholarships. Computer support services are available through state-of-the-art computer labs.

Office of Undergraduate Business Programs (UBP), located in 262 Melcher Hall, is committed to providing quality administrative, enrollment, and advising services to currently enrolled and prospective students of the college. The office also maintains information for students interested in learning abroad possibilities. The mission of the Office of Undergraduate Business Programs is to advise and assist students with their academic success and leadership development, in partnership with the Rockwell Career Center, the Bauer Tutoring Services, the UH Writing Center, and other campus student service centers such as the LAUNCH and the UH Writing Center.

UBP offers college information sessions for new and prospective business students. Required sessions include New Student Orientation for newly admitted freshman and transfer students. During their first year, freshman pre-business students have special academic success and social activities either through the Emerging Leaders Academic Success Program (ELASP) or, for students in the Honors College, through the Bauer Honors Program.

Part of the requirements for the B.B.A. include BUSI 3302 , Connecting Bauer to Business, on career exploration and preparation, and communication skills course. Also included is the Bauer Code of Ethics, which all Bauer College students are expected to understand and assent to as a Bauer College student.

BUSI 3302  also includes administration of a mandatory business writing evaluation (BWE). Students must clear the BWE as part of BUSI 3302 or within that subsequent semester. Criteria for clearing the BWE is determined by the Bauer College faculty through a representative faculty committee.

A minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA at UH is required each term while a student is a pre-business major. Pre-business majors with a cumulative GPA at UH below a 2.5 are placed on College Academic Notice. College Academic Notice is a warning that a student does not meet the minimum GPA required to file a degree plan, and a recommendation to participate in academic learning support programs.

Bauer Honors Program

Launched in Fall 2002, the Bauer Honors Program is a specialized program for business students that combines a solid liberal arts foundation from The Honors College with specialized business curriculum. In addition to outstanding academic benefits such as smaller, discussion-based business courses and the opportunity to write a senior honors thesis, Bauer Honors students experience a strong sense of community gained through personalized academic services, networking, and social events.

Bauer Honors students must complete the 10 hours of Human Situation coursework required of all Honors College students and a minimum of 18 hours of Business Honors curriculum (6 courses), including:

• SCM 3301H, which satisfies the Honors College requirement for completion of an upper-division Honors Colloquium.
• Minimum of 15 hours (five courses) taken in designated Bauer Honors sections.

No more than 6 hours of Business Honors credit may be earned through The Honors College petition process.

The 18 hours of Business Honors curriculum can be applied towards the 36 hours of total Honors coursework required by The Honors College.

Students that complete the required Honors coursework and maintain an overall GPA of 3.25 or above will graduate with University Honors from The Honors College.

Students that complete the above requirements and a senior honors thesis for six hours of honors credit will graduate with University Honors and Honors in Major.

The Rockwell Career Center

The Rockwell Career Center located on the 2^nd floor of Cemo Hall actively provides business students with the information, opportunities, and practical skills necessary to obtain a satisfying career in today’s competitive marketplace. The center provides targeted job listings, on-campus recruiting, recruiting events, internships, job search resources and individual counseling sessions to complement C.T. Bauer College students’ academic experiences with professional development to help them attain successful and fulfilling business careers.

Through a partnership with the University Career Services office, the Rockwell Career Center offers students from the Bauer College not only university-wide job postings and interview opportunities, but also job opportunities and career resources specifically developed for Bauer students. The unique and personalized services are part of why the Rockwell Career Center received the Professional Change Maker Award and the Excellence in Diversity Programming Award from The National Association of Colleges and Employers. BAUER+

BAUER+ is an online platform to bring together what you learn in your classes and your activities outside of class to help you create and tell your own story of student success and career readiness.  BAUER+ is organized around NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) career readiness competencies.  Classroom and out-of-class programs, projects, and reflection papers that relate to these career readiness competencies are tracked to assist you in telling your story at Bauer and beyond.

The Ted Bauer Leadership Certificate Program

Central to being a leader is having a vision, and the ability to persuasively communicate that vision so that others follow. Leadership is vision that inspires action. Not everyone will fill the primary leadership role within an organization. But everyone can identify their strengths and develop their own personal vision statement that motivates them to positive action and inspires those within their own sphere of influence. Through the Ted Bauer Leadership Certificate Program, students become more effective leaders and more effective in their own life and as an influencer of others.

The Ted Bauer Leadership Certificate Program is an inclusive program for leadership within a business setting. Bauer College students start the program by identifying their strengths, and then relating those strengths to the traits of success shared by executives and community leaders to develop a personal vision statement. They then apply their strengths and carry out that vision within a group setting of an organization. Students who demonstrate outstanding leadership receive a certificate of completion.

The goals of the program are to provide practical knowledge of professionalism; tools for effective decision making and communication; to help students discover their strengths and how to leverage their personal leadership talents to be effective and influential; and to enhance students capacity to lead ethically and effectively all while being in the service of others.

The program is based on well-known programs such as StrengthsFinder by Gallup and The Student Leadership Challenge, a widely recognized leadership model based on qualitative research with middle and senior managers. In addition, Bauer College offers more intensive programs such as a StrengthsFinder Series for all students and LeaderShape to further develop the qualities and skills that will help students grow as the leaders of tomorrow. Bauer Ambassadors

Bauer Ambassadors (BA) an elite group of undergraduate business students who represent Bauer College, its spirit and values, to the campus and community. Bauer Ambassadors represent the college at key events and activities for the Dean’s Office, Undergraduate Business Programs (UBP), and the Rockwell Career Center (RCC), and serve as Ethics Advocates for their fellow students. Those events and activities include college tours, new student orientations, career events, dean’s events, commencement, and presentations to students on the importance of academic achievement and honesty, and being engaged in the college.

Professional Student Organizations

One arena to practice leadership is through student organizations. Before the business community’s presidents, executives and decision-makers can thrive in the corporate world, they must first have experience as a leader. Combining the business savvy, civic responsibility and social graces needed to be a truly effective leader can be a bit like putting together a puzzle.

Here at the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston, we offer our students the opportunity to put those pieces together with over 20 student organizations associated with Bauer College. Our student leaders graduate with the confidence of knowing that they have all the necessary skills for success in their professional and personal lives.

Undergraduate student organizations registered with the Center for Student Involvement whose mission relates to business and whose membership is composed of 60% or moreof business majors may request association with Bauer College, which entails certain privileges and responsibilities.  Requesting association with Bauer College is a formal process and requires meeting the requirements for that association.

Career Development

Members and officers of student organizations learn more about the real world of business by meeting influential corporate partners and advance their career development skills through career preps, workshops, resume building and interviewing activities.

Community Service

Student leaders from Bauer College are committed to giving back to the Houston community through various service and volunteer activities. Whether it’s pitching in at a soup kitchen or mentoring at-risk youth, our students are ready to lend a hand.

Personal Growth

Perhaps the greatest benefit of joining a student organization is the immeasurable bond members feel as they share their collegiate experience with each other.
