Mission / Objectives

The College of Education is committed to the preparation of teachers, counselors, school and higher education administrators, and professionals for a wide variety of educational settings, including social agencies, business, and government. Because of the university’s urban setting, students will have opportunities to work with learners in a wide variety of educational settings.

Accreditation

The College of Education is accredited by the State Board for Educator Certification, (SEBC) and by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

College of Education’s Departmental Organization

Each of the two departments of the college focuses on a specific aspect of professional education. Both departments offer undergraduate degrees. The major entitled Teaching and Learning (formerly known as Interdisciplinary Studies) is housed within the Curriculum and Instruction Department. Two majors, Health, and Human Development and Family Studies, are housed in the Educational Psychology Department.
