About the Academic Advising Center of Undergraduate Scholars at UH
The Academic Advising Center of Undergraduate Scholars at UH supports undergraduate students’ core curriculum study and academic success, especially during the freshman year. Students who choose not to declare a major at the point of admission to the University of Houston will be offered assistance through the Academic Advising Center that will help them later make an informed decision about a major field of study. All students who are first-time-in-college students must declare a major by the end of their second semester at the University of Houston (30 credit hours).
The professional advising staff provides core curriculum, Texas Success Initiative (TSI), lower level prerequisite, alternative major, pre-health and pre-law advising.
Location and Hours
The Academic Advising Center of Undergraduate Scholars at UH is located in room 56 University Libraries, via the back entrance to M.D. Anderson Library, across from the University Center, and is open Monday through Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
The Academic Advising Center has the responsibility for TSI screening, advising, compliance monitoring, and remediation assignment. All students who are not TSI complete must enroll in the respective developmental courses(s) during their first semester(s) at UH. Students have to earn passing grades in development courses before they can enroll in college level courses in that particular area. For more information about the Texas Success Initiative program, see the Office of Admissions website.
Undergraduate Scholars at UH designed and administers the campus-wide Undergraduate Academic Advisor Certification Program and maintains the online Academic Advising Manual. The office also develops, organizes and presents University Advisors’ Meetings and other advisor training opportunities.
UH Campus Advising Support
The Academic Advising Center staff members participate in the Admission Review Committee, Student-Athlete Admissions Committee, Cougar Preview, and New Student Orientation (providing core curriculum placement and student success information).
