Prerequisite: ENGL 1304  and junior standing or permission of professor.

An interdisciplinary introduction to the history, cultures, and languages of Latin America. The course develops an appreciation of the richness, complexity, and diversity of Latin America as well as an appreciation for the different ways that various disciplines study the region and they many countries contained within it. Topics include the region’s indigenous past, religious traditions, linguistic diversity, economic development, gender relations, political structures, popular culture, and social dynamics.
