GEDS 6A30 - Promoting Sustainability I: Community-Centered Approaches for the Int’l Oil & Gas Industry

Prerequisite: Acceptance to the graduate certificate program in Global Energy, Development, and Sustainability

This course uses a Social Science approach (theoretical and empirical) to introduce students to the challenges and opportunities faced by local and regional populations when oil and gas projects are undertaken. Students will be provided with skills to recognize and analyze social and environmental impacts, and to identify key junctures where interventions can be made for positive outcomes. Issues to be addressed: ethnicity, power, gender, health, religion, social/environmental justice, petro-violence, transparency, and Corporate Social Responsibility.
