This course covers substantive death penalty law, beginning with the supreme court’s decision in 1972 to strike down all then-existing law, and continuing through the court’s most recent term. Primary focus will be on federal decisions, by the supreme court and the court of appeals, but state court decisions, particularly cases from Texas, will also receive significant attention.
