The Department of Information and Logistics Technology (ILT) provides educational opportunities designed to prepare students for careers in business, industry, and government; the programs are closely linked to workforce quality and productivity for the region, the state, and the nation through its programs in Supply Chain and Logistics Technology, Computer Information Systems, Digital Media, and Organizational Leadership and Supervision. Graduates are leaders who bring high levels of technology expertise to the workplace and are prepared to guide technological change within the organization.
The mission of the Department of Information and Logistics Technology at the University of Houston is to produce new ideas and knowledge within the fields of information, logistics, graphic communications, and leadership technology, and to educate highly capable and diverse technology leaders for the state of Texas, the nation, and the global community
Departmental Learning Objectives
To achieve its educational mission, graduates from the ILT department’s programs will have acquired the six capabilities listed below.
Graduates will know how to:
- Acquire the basic and in-depth knowledge and skills required in their professions.
- Apply and refine their technological knowledge and skills in leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making, teamwork processes, and project management to solve novel, ambiguous, and routine problems.
- Integrate their knowledge of technological, social, organizational, and value systems to improve the creation and application of technological solutions.
- Contribute to the improvement of their professions and society through the discovery, application, integration, and assessment of technological capability.
- Anticipate and fulfill their need for new knowledge and capabilities as their disciplines progress.
- Employ effective oral, written, graphic, and interpersonal modes of communication for expressing technical concepts to diverse audience.
To qualify for a Bachelor of Science degree in the Department of Information and Logistics Technology, students must complete university requirements for a baccalaureate degree, including university core curriculum requirements and departmental requirements for a specific degree program as stated in this section of the catalog. All majors and minors in the Department of Information and Logistics Technology must earn a grade of C or better in all major/minor courses. No grade lower than C will be accepted on any courses applicable to the major transferred to the University of Houston. A grade point average of 2.00 or better is required for graduation.
The Department of Information and Logistics Technology also offers three Master of Science degrees: Information Security, Technology-Project Management, and Supply Chain and Logistics Technology.
