Pharmacy Administration, M.S.


Admissions

Master of Science degree is offered in the area of Pharmacy Administration by the Department of Clinical Sciences and Administration. Financial support is available to qualified applicants on a limited competitive basis in the form of teaching and research assistantships. Information about assistantships may be obtained from the Department of Clinical Sciences and Administration.

Application

All applicants must submit a graduate application for admission, two transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work, at least three letters of recommendation, their scores on the general aptitude portion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and complete resume or curriculum vitae.

General Admissions Requirements

To be admitted unconditionally, students must submit satisfactory scores on the general aptitude portion (verbal, quantitative and analytical writing) of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and have a minimum 3.0 (A=4.0) grade point average on all work attempted, graduate and undergraduate, beginning with the semester in which the student took the first of the 60 most recently earned semester hours. Unconditional or conditional admission may be granted to students who have a minimum 2.6 (A=4.0) grade point average provided that the scores on the GRE are high enough to indicate probable success in the graduate program. GRE scores are evaluated as one information source in the total graduate application. Applicants may be asked to take placement examinations given by the department in order to determine eligibility for admission or to indicate deficiencies in undergraduate course work. For additional specific admission requirements, applicants should contact the Department of Clinical Sciences and Administration.

For admission into graduate studies, international students must score at least 550 (213 on the computer-based score) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination or have earned degrees from accredited U.S. institutions.

Degree Requirements

Graduate Research

Students may develop research programs in the areas of pharmaceutical management, pharmaceutical marketing, behavioral pharmacy, health outcomes, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology, health policy, or managed care.

Pharmacy Administration

Applicants should have a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy or a Pharm.D.; however, consideration will be given to individuals with degrees in closely related areas. The Master of Science degree prepares students for careers in government, research, and industry and provides a strong foundation for doctoral-level work in pharmacy administration. Students must complete a minimum of 36 semester hours of courses, including course work in pharmaceutical economics, management, quantitative methods, medical sociology, health policy, and research methods. Students will be expected to develop an indepth knowledge of computer application in pharmacy through didactic courses and individual study. Admission to the MS degree program is extremely competitive. Due to the large number of very highly qualified applicants and the limited number of slots for new students, we cannot guarantee acceptance to all candidates that meet requirements.
