Master Reading Teacher Professional Certificate

PK - 12 Grade (30 Credit Hours To Complete)


This program prepares Master Reading Teachers ensuring there are teachers with special training to work with other teachers and with students in order to improve student reading performance.  Master Reading Teachers may serve as a reading teacher mentor to other teachers and teach reading to students in Prekindergarten through Grade 12.  Certification as a master teacher provides a candidate relevant experiences in a variety of educational settings with diverse student populations (Title 19, TAC §239.100). The practicum experience requires a candidate to demonstrate proficiency in each of the applicable standards (Title 19, TAC §239.100).

Criteria include thirty (30) graduate credit hours, a college certification plan, and state minimum and issuance requirements for certification (Title 19, TAC §239.101). The Master Reading Program requires a Master of Education (M.Ed.), in Curriculum and Instruction, (Emphasis in Reading, Language Arts, and Literature Education) and Reading Specialist certificate for certification.
