Teaching and Learning Major

Students seeking early childhood-6th grade and 4th-8th grade certification must complete the requirements for the Teaching and Learning major. Students should apply for an official degree plan as soon as possible but before 60 semester hours of completed coursework.

The Teaching and Learning major is composed of five components: academic foundations, pre-professional development courses, specific B.S. and Coordinating Board requirements for mathematics and science, and the Student Teaching Sequence. This degree requires 120-136 semester hours. Degree outlines are available online at http://www.coe.uh.edu/degree-programs/teaching-learning/.

All entering students must declare as a Pre-Teaching and Learning major and will work with an academic advisor to follow an informational plan leading to successful completion of program requirements. Following successful completion of pre-major requirements , students with a 2.5 cumulative UH GPA may declare a major in Teaching and Learning.

Students being re-admitted to the Teaching and Learning major must:

  1. be placed on a contract in which they are required to obtain the cumulative GPA required for admission to the major (2.5) within 2 long semesters of entry into the College, and
  2. complete at least two courses in major each of these first two semesters and have their course enrollments approved by academic advisors.
