Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts  > Moores School of Music  > Moores School of Music - Experience Track

The Moores School of Music recognizes the value of developing students’ professional development as an integral part of their academic career. Students who add the Experience Track to their degree program and satisfy its requirements will receive recognition for internship and curricular practical training (CPT) experience by a transcript notation.

To satisfy the requirements for the Experience Track, students must declare their intention to pursue the track and complete an approved internship/CPT. Zero-credit courses (such as COOP 0011 ,…, COOP 0017 ) are available for this purpose.

Internship/CPT experience will be approved by the Academic Department. Co-op internship/CPT experiences conform to the rules of the Co-op Office in the career center of the Cullen College of Engineering. CPT experiences conform to the rules of the International Student Scholar Services Office.

Eligibility for Experience Track

Steps to declare and register for Experience Track

  1. Students must declare their intention to pursue the Experience Track by submitting a General Petition (signed by their area coordinator) to their academic advisor.
  2. The Academic Department will verify the student’s academic eligibility for the Experience Track.
  3. The Academic Department will review the internship, including:
    • the formal job offer on the hiring company’s stationery
    • a description of the work to be performed
    • a beginning and ending date
    • the salary offered
  4. The Academic department will determine whether or not the internship/CPT will provide the student with appropriate experience related to their major field of study.
  5. If approved, the approved petition and internship approval will be forwarded from the Academic Department to the Co-op office in the career center of the Cullen College of Engineering to complete the process. Students must complete the steps listed on the “UH CO-OP INTERN REQUIREMENTS” form in order to apply and register for the Experience Track (Co-operative Education).
  6. F-1 students seeking CPT should visit the International Student Scholar Services Office (ISSSO) for special instructions prior to the steps above.
