The degree plan for a Master of Science (MS) in Technology Project Management is designed specifically to prepare individuals with undergraduate degrees in technology disciplines for responsible leadership roles in the technology-based and professional workplaces.

The core courses provide in-depth preparation in project management skills. Being able to plan and manage technology projects is an increasingly important skill for those with a technical background. The directed area of study allows graduate students the opportunity to focus in an area of specialization.

Many opportunities await the Technology Project Management graduate. Students who graduate with a Master of Science in Technology Project Management are prepared to fill vital management and supervisory roles in a wide range of industries. Career options will vary depending on the chosen area of emphasis.

Students in the program have reported that they have been able to apply the skills they learn across wide variety of occupations including: Project Manager, Team Lead, Analyst, Process Engineer, Quality Manager, Information Services Manager, Logistics Manager, Finance Manager, Senior Sourcing Specialist, Engagement Manager, Operations Management and Business Development Manager.

These occupations are spread across several industries such as banking/finance, manufacturing and production, merchandising and retail, K-16 education, engineering, architecture, hospital and health services, government, military, telecommunications, non-profits, legal services, public utilities, information technology consulting, energy/oil and gas, construction, and software development.

Admission Requirements


The Technology Project Management program is designed specifically to prepare individuals with undergraduate degrees in technology disciplines.

  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum grade point average of 3.00 (A=4.00) on the most recent 60 semester hours of undergraduate coursework.
  • Domestic applicants may be conditionally admitted with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a grade point average of 2.75 to 2.99 in a 4.0 scale on the most recent 60 semester hours of undergraduate course work.
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for all applicants, and score may not be more than 5 years old.
  • International applicants have additional documentation requirements, including the submission of TOEFL/IELTS scores, if appropriate. For full details, please visit www.uh.edu/graduate-school/admissions/international-students/.

The application submission requires official transcript, GRE test score, TOEFL/IELTS test score (if applicable), personal/goal statement, three letters of recommendation, and application fee ($75 domestic applicants/$150 international applicants).

Degree Requirements


Credit hours required for this degree: 30.0

The Technology Project Management Master’s degree requires 30 semester hours or 10 courses.

Research Project (6.0 Credit Hours)


Students are also required to conduct six (6) semester hours of master research project TEPM 6391 Project Management Seminar and TEPM 6395 Integration Project. Courses cannot be taken concurrently.
