Interdisciplinary Minor in Energy and Sustainability


The Honors College  > Interdisciplinary Minor in Energy and Sustainability

The Energy and Sustainability minor welcomes students from all majors. Although housed in the Honors College, it is open to all qualified students. The minor is designed to provide students with an interdisciplinary approach to broad issues regarding energy and sustainability, with a common introductory course and capstone course. Topics would include existing, transitional, and alternative energy resources; conservation and consumption; and energy and sustainability from the perspectives of economics and business, architecture and design, public policy, and education.

Declaring the Minor


  • A 2.5 cumulative GPA on 15 or more hours at UH and sophomore standing are the requirements to declare the Energy and Sustainability minor.
  • Students must be admitted to the minor prior to completing the last 9 hours for the minor.

GPA Requirements


A 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA in all courses used to fulfill minor requirements is required for graduation.

Minor Course and Residency Requirements


The Energy and Sustainability minor consists of 18 credit hours, 9 credit hours of which must be advanced hours in residence.

The additional 12 credit hours are selected from the following, with no more than 6 credit hours from any one area (with no more than 12 credit hours of ENRG courses total for the minor), and two courses required from each of the two categories:

First Category: Energy Production and Management (6 Credit Hours)

ENRG 4397 and ENRG 4398, as well as electives not included on this list require approval from the Director of the Minor to be used to fulfill minor requirements.
