Overview

A Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) provides a broadly based study of the intellectual, emotional, social, and moral development of individuals and families. HDFS graduates have a variety of opportunities available to them. Many students go on to graduate school in the fields of Social Work, Psychology, Education, Medicine, and Law.

Undergraduates in Human Development and Family Studies prepare for the following teacher certifications in the State of Texas through the UH Teacher Education Program.

Students with 2.0 cumulative UH GPA may declare a major in Human Development and Family Studies. Students must complete the following courses with a grade of “C” in order to use the course toward a degree in this major: HDFS 1300, HDFS 2317, and HDFS 1311 or HDFS 2320. Students who transfer one or more of these HDFS courses must file any petitions for course equivalencies. These course equivalencies must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.
