Teaching and Learning Major
Students seeking early childhood-6th grade and 4th-8th grade certification must complete the requirements for the Teaching and Learning major.
This degree requires 120-133 semester hours. Degree outlines are available online at the Teaching and Learning webpage.
The Teaching and Learning major is composed of five components:
- academic foundations,
- pre-professional development courses,
- specific B.S. Coordinating Board requirements for mathematics and science, and
- the Student Teaching Sequence.
Students with a 2.5 cumulative UH GPA may declare a major in Teaching and Learning. Students must complete CUIN 3316 or CUIN 3321, ELED 3320 and CUIN 3302 with a grade of “C” or better in order to apply the courses to a Teaching and Learning degree. Students who transfer one or more of the courses must file petitions for course equivalencies. These course equivalencies must be completed with a grade “C” or better. In addition, candidates must pass a required writing assessment, complete an admissions interview, and demonstrate the ability to pass a criminal history background check, performed by participating school districts, to ensure that required school field placements can be completed.
Students being re-admitted to the Teaching and Learning major must:
- be placed on a contract in which they are required to obtain the cumulative GPA required for admission to the major (2.5) within 2 long terms of entry into the College, and
