African American Studies Minor

A minor in African American Studies requires a minimum of 18 semester hours. AAS 2320 - Introduction to African American Studies  and AAS 4370 - Seminar in African American Studies  are REQUIRED courses for the minor along with Six hours of approved electives from the Africana Studies Focus; and Six hours of approved electives from the Historical Focus, Social-Psychological Focus, Political-Economic Focus or Aesthetic Focus. Twelve of the 18 hours must be in residence; Twelve of the 18 hours must be in African American Studies (AAS) courses. Twelve hours must be advanced (3000 or 4000 level) and six of the twelve advanced hours must be in residence. A minimum 2.00-grade point average for all courses applied to the minor is required. Students may obtain a complete list of approved coursework for this minor in the Office of African American Studies or visiting the AAS website at http://www.uh.edu/class/aas/students/undergrad/index.
