Health Law, LLM

The program, consistently ranked in the Top 10 by U.S. News & World Report, has been at the forefront of policy analysis related to legal aspects of healthcare and biotechnology. Students in the program increase their understanding of the dynamic nature of health law and policy through interaction with health care providers, researchers, and administrators on legal issues.

Students in the program have included recent law school graduates and practitioners with varying years of experience.

Admission Requirements


Admission to the program requires a law degree from an ABA-approved U.S. law school. Lawyers educated in other countries must hold a law degree from a university accredited by the country’s ministry of education or be admitted to practice law before the highest court in their jurisdiction.

All applications are submitted through the Law School Admission Council, LSAC, at https://www.lsac.org/llm. A complete applications consists of the following:

  • application form
  • resumé/CV
  • personal statement of at least three hundred words
  • two references letters

Applicants form a country in which English is not the official language are required to provide a TOEFL or ILETS report. The Law Center typically requires a score of 100 on the TOEFL or 7.0 on the IELTS.

U.S. educated lawyers can begin the program in August and January. Lawyers who earned their law degree can only begin the program in August and the application deadline is April 15.

Degree Requirements


The LL.M. degree is a 24 credit program. Students in the Health Law LL.M. program must complete, within the 24-credit program requirement, 18 credits of health law coursework that has been approved by their faculty advisor. All students must take the Advanced Law course. Students, working in concert with their advisor, select courses that meet the individual’s personal or professional goals. Students have the option of writing a thesis.

Academic Policies


Students must maintain a 2.50 grade point average every term. The program must be completed within three years of admission. Students must be registered for at least three credits every fall and spring term.
