(With Concurrent Residency)

Admissions

The Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy is a cooperative program with a concurrent residency in Hospital Pharmacy Adminstration with one to six Texas Medical Center Institutions.  Requirements for acceptance include a pharmacy degree and eligibility for Texas State Licensure by the first of September for the residency portion.  An on-site interview will be required.

Requirements for the M.S. program include a bachelor’s or a professional degree in Pharmacy.

Application

All applicants must submit a graduate application for admission, two copies of transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work, at least three letters of recommendation, their scores on the general aptitude portion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and a complete resume or curriculum vitae.

General Admissions Requirements

To be admitted unconditionally, students must submit satisfactory scores on the general aptitude portion (verbal, quantitative and analytical writing) of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and have a minimum 3.0 (A=4.0) grade point average on all graduate and undergraduate coursework attempted, beginning with the semester in which the student took the first of the 60 most recently earned semester hours.  GRE scores are evaluated as one information source in the total graduate application.  Applicants may be asked to take placement examinations given by the department in order to determine eligibility for admission or to indicate deficiencies in undergraduate course work.  For additional specific admission requirements, applicants should contact the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Translational Research.

Graduate Research

Students may develop research programs in the areas of pharmaceutical management, pharmaceutical marketing, behavioral pharmacy, health outcomes, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology, health policy, or managed care.

Pharmacy Administration

The concurrent M.S./Residency program is designed to prepare pharmacists with the knowledge and skills to assume positions of leadership in health care.  The 24-month program offers unique learning, teaching, and collaboration opportunities to complete an M.S. in Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy with a focus on Pharmacy Leadership from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and concurrently complete PGY1/PGY2 residency training from six leading Texas Medical Center institutions:
