  1. Students must earn all semester hours, and successfully pass the departmental comprehensive examination, within the five years prior to graduation.

  4. A common core of nine semester hours is required of all students.  This requirement normally is fulfilled during the first 18 semester hours taken at the university.
  5. A comprehensive examination is a requirement for this program and will typically be taken in the student’s final semester.

An application for graduation must be filed early during the semester when degree requirements are completed.  The application can be completed by logging in to Enrollment Services Online.  Filing deadlines are listed in the class schedule and the academic calendar.

Comprehensive Exam

A comprehensive examination is required for all students seeking the Master of Arts in Sport and Fitness Administration degree, except for those planning on completing a research-based thesis.  Upon approval by the student’s faculty advisor, the comprehensive examination may be taken at any time after eighteen hours of required coursework is completed.  A student must be enrolled in coursework during the semester in which the examination is to be taken.

The comprehensive examination is comprised of 4 questions.  Two questions are derived from the material covered in the Core:  PEP 6305  and either PEP 6306  , PEP 7303  or PEP 7312  . The remaining two questions are derived from the Program Area Emphasis in consultation with faculty advisor. The student must pass the comprehensive examination satisfactorily before the Master of Arts in Sport and Fitness Administration degree is awarded.
