Important topics in text mining including but not limited to: basic natural language processing techniques, document representation, text categorization and clustering, document summarization, sentiment analysis, social network and social media analysis, probabilistic topic models and text visualization. Emphasis will be placed on tying text mining techniques to specific real-world applications through hands-on experience. Understand how text mining tasks are carried out in the real world and how to build tools for solving practical text mining/processing problems.
