The Master of Science in Engineering Technology currently offers three tracks: Mechanical Engineering Technology, Network Communications and Systems Control Technology. The Engineering Technology degree studies current issues in technology, project management and experimental design and data analysis.

Master of Science in Engineering Technology - Network Communications

Advisor: Dr. Deniz Gurkan

This degree emphasis builds upon ETAC-ABET-accredited baccalaureate degree programs in the fields of computer, electronic, or electrical engineering technology, and related fields. This program provides an advanced knowledge of computer networks with a diverse set of courses in networking fundamentals, security, network management, protocols, and algorithms. Furthermore, application areas such as optical networking, sensor networks, wireless networks and network programming are also available. Advanced applied research opportunities provide an enriching academic experience. Additionally, the program encourages practical experiences through industry partnerships. Our graduates fill vital engineering management and supervisory roles in every industry where networking technologies are essential, including energy, chemical, healthcare, telecommunications and aerospace.

Master of Science in Engineering Technology - Systems Control Technology

Advisor: Dr. Deniz Gurkan

This degree emphasis builds upon ETAC-ABET-accredited baccalaureate degree programs in the fields of computer, electronic, or electrical engineering technology, and related fields. This program provides advanced knowledge of the inter- and multi-disciplinary field of embedded digital architectures to monitor and shape the behavior of dynamic systems. This emphasis will focus on topics such as process control, electric power systems, control over networks, systems engineering applications, and project management. Graduates are prepared to be advanced level control technologists in industry, and control technology instructors for educational institutions offering baccalaureate and associate degree programs.

Master of Science in Engineering Technology - Mechanical Engineering Technology

Advisor: Dr. Francisco Robles-Hernandez

This degree emphasis builds upon our recognized and ABET accredited mechanical baccalaureate degrees and related fields providing students with highly developed expertise in design and analysis of mechanical systems. This degree provides an integrated multi-disciplinary program designed to prepare individuals with practical and theoretical skills in Technology with a focus on applied Mechanical Engineering. This relationship facilitates the translation of research findings to meet current industry needs. With state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories, the M.S. degree offers courses and cutting-edge research experiences in several applied areas including, instrumentation and measurement, biomedical systems, advanced materials design, manufacturing, systems integration, oil and gas applications, and energy.

Special Admission Requirements- Master of Science in Engineering Technology (tracks in Mechanical Engineering, Network Communications and Systems Control Technology)

In addition to the College of Technology admission requirements, applicants for the Master of Science in Engineering Technology must submit scores from the verbal, math, and analytical writing portions of the GRE exam.

Conditional admission will be considered for applicants who do not have ETAC-ABET-accredited technology degrees based on the completion of qualification course work.

Applicants must provide three letters of reference and submit a brief statement of career goals and objectives.

Degree Requirements

Depending on their interests, students may select either the thesis option or the project option. Project and thesis guidelines, specifying other requirements, are updated regularly and are available from the department office. Students are expected to contact program faculty on possible thesis and project topics.
