The Cullen College of Engineering offers the graduate certificate program in Corrosion Engineering.  The graduate certificate program entitled “Corrosion Control and Management” focuses on asset integrity management, risk management and corrosion monitoring and control.

By taking this certificate program, the students will be prepared to take positions which meet the needs of energy, environmental and other sectors. They will formulate designs and implementation strategies acceptable to all sectors of the industry where corrosion is a major issue.  This program will benefit the industry professionals as well as students who want to focus more on corrosion engineering in addition to materials and metallurgy. Also, it will increase practical knowledge of students other than just theoretical aspects.

Admission Requirements


The targeted audience for this certificate include a broad range of practicing engineers in the Houston oil and gas, downstream, pipeline and water management industries as well as regular students out of their bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering field.  Any engineering professionals as long as they have an engineering degree, who wish to improve their knowledge and skills in corrosion engineering are eligible to apply for pursuing the certificate. No particular amount of experience is required.

  • BS degree in engineering or technology.  Applicants with a bachelor degree in a related science field will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Certificate Requirements


Credit Hours Required for this Certificate: 9.0

The Certificate in Corrosion Control and Management program will require students to take following three courses (9 SCH) or equivalent related courses approved by the program director.
