The Cullen College of Engineering offers the graduate certificate program in Process Safety Engineering.  The certificate primarily focuses on process safety and reliability, industrial safety, risk analysis and human factors.

By taking this certificate program, the students will be prepared to identify safety risks in the manufacturing, process and oil and gas industries. They will understand environmental and safety regulatory structure and make better decisions throughout project’s lifecycle. This program will benefit the industry professionals as well as students who want to focus more on safety engineering to help companies build better health, safety and environment (HSE) culture and standards. This graduate certificate program will provide the skills required for engineers to understand and implement these safety techniques.

Admission Requirements


The targeted audience for this certificate include a broad range of practicing engineers in the Houston manufacturing, process, oil and gas, downstream, and refinery industries as well as regular students out of their bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering field.

  • BS degree in engineering or technology.  Applicants with a bachelor degree in a related science field will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Certificate Requirements


Credit Hours Required for this Certificate: 9.0

The Certificate in Process Safety Engineering program will require students to take the following three courses (9 SCH) or equivalent related courses approved by the program director.
