Engineering - Technology Division  > Department of Construction Management  > Construction Management, B.S.

The program offers two specialized tracks: Process and Industrial Construction, and Commercial Construction. Each track offers a comprehensive blend of knowledge and skills in construction, engineering, and business management.

The Construction Management program aims to equip graduates with the competencies highly valued and demanded by the construction industry. It addresses the needs of the commercial, industrial, and highway/heavy construction sectors for entry-level professionals who possess both knowledge and skills. Graduates are expected to be proficient in understanding construction materials and methods, structural systems, site development with soils, business principles, and contract management. They should also be adept at planning, estimating, scheduling, and assessing project performance. The curriculum, encompassing both foundational and advanced courses, integrates current standards and technologies essential for high-quality construction management. The application of software tools in course assignments prepares students for utilizing modern construction management software.

Graduates of our Construction Management program will possess the knowledge and problem-solving abilities to:

  1. Estimate construction project costs and assess cost performance.
  2. Decode construction documents and standards.
  3. Utilize time value of money concepts for alternative evaluations.
  4. Develop project schedules.
  5. Implement engineering design principles for site development projects, including soils and foundations, water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater management.
  6. Execute general managerial duties.

The program’s goals are to:

  • Offer a career-focused curriculum that primes students for professional roles in the construction industry.
  • Highlight the latest technological advancements in construction management.
  • Prepare students for further academic pursuits and lifelong learning, including readiness for graduate-level Construction Management programs.

At the master’s level, students are provided with an advanced education that prepares them for leadership roles in construction management or for academic careers. For more details on the graduate program, refer to the Graduate and Professional Studies catalog.
