The BSIE/MBA accelerated dual degree program is open to qualified Industrial Engineering undergraduate students desiring to pursue a professional MBA degree at UH Bauer business school immediately upon completion of their BSIE degree. This program is intended for students planning to seek an MBA education while ensuring that the timeframe to graduation is optimal. The two degrees may be completed in five years assuming normal progress toward each degree.

Timelines of Admission


Current Industrial Engineering (IE) undergraduate students can apply to this dual program track after completing their first semester of sophomore year. Applicants admitted to the dual program track must apply for admission to the professional MBA program after completing their first semester of senior year. Applicants should consult the BSIE academic advior for more specific application deadlines and admission criteria for both the dual program track and the MBA program.

BSIE Degree Requirements:


Once admitted to the dual program track, students will first pursue BSIE degree and are required to satisfy all BSIE degree requirements as specified on the UH Undergraduate Catalog  to earn BSIE Degree, except that students are allowed to take two MBA core courses in their senior year to substitute two courses in the BSIE degree plan; specifically,

  • ACCT 6331 (Financial Accounting) will replace INDE 3330 (Financial and Cost Management), and
  • FINA 6387 (Managerial Analysis) will be used to satisfy the Technical Elective requirement of the BSIE degree plan.

MBA Degree Requirements


Students admitted to the MBA program will officially join the MBA program immediately after successfully completing the BSIE degree. Students must satisfy the MBA degree requirements specified on the UH Graduate Catalog with 6 credit hours waiver of MBA coursework.  Students should consult their MBA academic advisor for the specific courses in the MBA degree plan that can be waived.

Double-Counted Courses


  • ACCT 6331 - Financial Accounting (replaces INDE 3330 in BSIE degree plan) Credit Hours: 3.0
  • FINA 6387 - Managerial Analysis (fulfills the Technical Elective requirement of BSIE degree plan) Credit Hours: 3.0

Total Credit Hours: 6.0


Awarding Degrees


The two degrees will be awarded sequentially. Upon successful completion of the undergrad degree and on receiving the BSIE Degree, the MBA degree will be awarded after completing the remaining of MBA degree requirements.
