Admissions Requirements
The admissions requirements are: The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree prior to beginning the program. The preferred GPA for undergraduate work is 2.6 or higher and zero years of prior teaching experience are required. The applicant should submit: official transcripts, 3 letters from professional or academic references, letter of interest with focus on teaching, and an interview. Degree Requirements
Please note, the proposed change is to the name of one of the specialization areas listed under the Curriculum and Instruction MEd program umbrella. The specific change requested, update the specialization name “Elementary Education” to the specialization name University of Houston Partnership for Developing Equity-minded Educators (UH PDEE). This change will make it easier for applicants to identify the master’s certification pathway offered by UH PDEE. This is not a new program however it does include an updated degree plan. The courses that make up the degree plan are existing courses that meet the goals of the UH PDEE program and state requirements for licensure. Coursework includes the current CUIN MEd. required 9-hours of core courses and the required 6-hour teacher residency experience (see course list below). The program of study is 30-hour, MEd. in Curriculum and Instruction with initial elementary teaching certification. This is a structured residency model with no opportunity for electives. The goal of the program is to provide a rigorous, short pathway to earning both an elementary teaching license and MEd. degree simultaneously. To participate in the program, applicants must choose the UH PDEE pathway and meet the requirements stated above. The capstone requirement is a guided teacher as researcher project that will be completed during the final semester in the program. The required courses are: Academic Policies
