Master of Science - Thesis Option
General Information
A minimum of 30 semester hours, including a thesis, are required for the degree of Master of Science. Required thesis semester credit hours vary with each department. All applicants should contact their departmental or interdisciplinary program graduate advisor for information on variations in the semester hour requirements for the Master of Science degree. All students selecting the thesis option must satisfactorily defend the thesis in the presence of the thesis committee prior to its acceptance.
Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (MSIE)
Specific Requirements for the MSIE Degree
- 33 semester hours of approved graduate courses are required for the MSIE degree. This includes 21 hours of course work, 6 hours of research, and 6 hours of thesis.
- These requisite degree program hours are in addition to any leveling courses.
- Students whose primary language is not English may be required to complete compulsory English communications course (INDE 6372 ). The engineering communication course is not required for the international students who score 50 percentile or higher on the verbal section of the GRE exam.
- All MSIE students must take INDE 6111 (graduate seminar course) at least once during their studies.
Students are required to take six core courses based on the following options:
Students are required to take the following mandatory core courses:
- INDE 6337 (Human Factor Engineering)
- INDE 6372 (Advanced Linear Optimization)
- INDE 7397 (Probability and Statistics). A new course course number (INDE 6333) will be assigned to this course beginning in Fall 2014.
Students are required to take three of the following six core courses:
