Reading Specialist Professional Certificate

27 Credit Hours To Complete

This program leads to the Reading Specialist Professional Certificate and The Reading Specialist program prepares teachers to fill roles in regular or special classrooms, clinics, or administrative positions.  A holder of the Reading Specialist Certificate issued under the provisions of this subchapter may teach reading to students in Prekindergarten-Grade 12 (Title 19, TAC §239.90).   

Criteria include twenty-seven (27) graduate credit hours, a college certification plan, state minimum requirements (Title 19, TAC §239.91), and the state requirements for issuance of certification (Title 19, TAC §239.93). A Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Curriculum and Instruction (Emphasis in Reading, Language Arts, and Literature Education) is required.

Elective Courses

6 hours or 2 courses to be negotiated with your advisor.
