Note(s):
- ITAL 3335 and ITAL 4308 do not require substantial knowledge of Italian and can be taken even during the First Year. WCL Majors in Italian Studies Track and Minors in Italian must take at least one of the two. However, students who take ITAL 3335 can also take ITAL 4308 as elective, and vice versa.
- Italian Studies majors must earn at least a 2.00-grade point average in all Italian courses counting toward the major and attempted at the University of Houston.
- Students who have not taken their first three semesters of Italian at the University of Houston (including those with two or more years of high school Italian, Heritage Learning students, returning from study abroad, etc.) must take a placement examination and see a department advisor before enrolling in Italian courses. The placement exam is available at the Testing Center year-round.
- Credit may be awarded by examination for courses at the 2000- and 3000-level. For information see the departmental advisor.
- Students who have taken the IB or AP Italian Exam may also be able to receive credit for some courses. They should consult the following: Credit by Examination .
- Transfer students must take at least 9 semester hours of advanced Italian course work in residence to qualify for a WCL degree with Italian Studies Track
